Update on Australian Release

We have been receiving numerous queries regarding the release of Broken Hill in Australia so we wanted to give you an official update on the process Broken Hill is taking before it gets a major release.
Broken Hill had its World Premiere in Melbourne Australia before it was taken on the international film festival circuit and our own test screening circuit. In the process it has won many awards and set the scene for a successful national and international release.
The normal gestation period for a film is 2 – 3 years. The Australian film “Shine’, which did so well at the Academy Awards a number of years ago took around five years from development to release. So the Broken Hill experience is nothing unusual. Less than 1% of the people we expect to see Broken Hill in theatres have been exposed to it so far. The major release schedules are yet to come.
The tentative release date for Australia is May 9, 2010. That may seem far off to some. However, we are making sure that the release of Broken Hill in Australia is a significant occurrence. We believe the wait will have been worth it.

I saw the movie yesterday on an Emirates flight (17 July)
The ending is good, but the story requires quite a suspension of belief

It’s almost the ninth of JUNE. Still no Broken Hill.
This is really annoying. My mum was an extra in this movie and not only did she not get paid or get a copy of the movie, but Americans have now seen the movie before she did. Not fair at all. I understand they can’t hand out early copies to the extras for fear of it leaking on the internet but a private screening is the very least they could have done for people who gave up their time to help make this movie.
May 9th hey…yeah right…how about actually releasing this movie or at least updating this page. I guess I’ll just pick it up on DVD at Big W.

So how long after the show is released in Australia until we can purchase a DVD for our own?
